Zimbabwe

The drama and beauty of the landscape is matched by a rich and infinitely varied wildlife. This small country offers a great diverse experience to any traveler - from the awesome wonder of the Victoria Falls and the mighty Zambezi River, to the jade sea of Lake Kariba and the mystical ruins of Great Zimbabwe. The country is a contrasting landscape of African plains and bushveld, to riverine forest, mountain ranges, rocky outcrops and semi desert. The magnificent Victoria Falls, being one of the Seven Wonders of the World is the largest curtain of falling water in the world stretching 1708 meters across. Whilst the Falls are the main attraction, visitors can make one of the highest jumps in the world or below the falls people can shoot the rapids in inflatable rafts, or take to the skies to see the falls and the game below from either a helicopter, fixed wing or micro-light.

To get the best out of a trip to Zimbabwe, you have to realize that there is far more to the magnificent Victoria Falls, all regions of Zimbabwe can offer something special. Zimbabwe offers some of the finest national parks in Southern Africa, namely Mana Pools National Park regarded as one of the wildest and loveliest of Zimbabwe’s national parks, with its 50km of river frontage on the Zambezi River. The ideal way to see this parks it to join a camping/canoeing safari that traverses the whole length of the Mana Pools National Park. Each night is spent on the banks of the Zambezi River, moving downstream. Guests have the opportunity to experience wildlife on foot or in canoes under the direct supervision of a fully trained guide.

The Matusadona National Park on Lake Kariba is another area that offers exceptional game viewing as the animals comes down to drink at the waters edge. The Matusadona is also home to one of Zimbabwe’s Intensive Protection Zones (IPZ) for the endangered black rhino. Another unique park situated South of Bulawayo is the Matobo Hills National Park, known for its huge granite boulders piled on top of each other – forming a stunning backdrop to the game rich park. Not forgetting the best-known park – Hwange, which boasts superb viewing of the ‘big Five, with spectacular herds of buffalo and elephant.
